Rangers activities are designed to promote growth in four areas of a child’s life: physical, social, intellectual and spiritual.  In this section of our outpost meeting, the devotional, each age group gathers separately. In this photo, one group meets under a tarp to read one of the Psalms together. We try to make this part of the meeting enjoyable and also linked to the rest of the activities. Some of the children had previously been learning about different types of knots: the bowline knot and the trucker’s hitch used to fasten the tarp securely in position.

The part of the bible looked at was Psalm 91:

If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,”
and you make the Most High your dwelling,
     no harm will overtake you,
no disaster will come near your tent.

God covers us and shelters us, just as this tarp does in a physical sense. Just as we come under to tarp to get protection from the sun or rain, so living in God protects our life in other ways. We do encourage children to trust and believe in God as part of their growth.
