Our annual Royal Rangers camp was held 27-29 May 2026. This year 52 people attended, 42 children aged 4-17 and 10 adults. The camp lasted for three days and featured activities ranging from games involving all children to workshops learning scouting skills and crafts to cooking a meal every day over a fire.
On camp, the children are put into one of four different age groups: 4-7, 8-10 (boys), 11-15 (boys) and 8-17 (girls). Each team prepares their own food (and washes up), does workshops, and looks at bible verses together. Please have a look at the videos below to get a feel for what we do on a ranger camp. The main theme of the camp was “Run the race”, a theme taken from a Bible verse that says “Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us” (Hebrews 12:1)
The first video shows the children cooking and eating food. Breakfast and lunch were cold meals (although the children needed to make sandwiches or wraps themselves). Once every day the three older groups of children (aged 8+) cook their meal over a camp fire (under close supervision, of course). The three cooked meals were: spaghetti bolognese, chicken curry and pasta with cheese and tomato sauce.
The second video shows two of the big games we played – we had a game of capture the flag and ranger rounders.
The third video shows some other parts of camp life – doping workshops, team time and our main meeting where we have a mixture of fun, activity and bible teaching.
The next video show the production of bacon and eggs for breakfast. As always, children fully participate in the cooking.
Finally. a last video illustrates the work done the day before camp, to put up all the tents.
The children had a great time, and we will be holding a camp like this every May. If you have children who may be interested in this, please contact Patrick Briddon (07811340914) to ask more.
